You'll find a bit more privacy at Daku Resort - it's maybe a mile fro the center of Savusavu, and you'll finally see the Fiji you were looking for. It's backed by a small mountain that you can hike if you like. The accommodation is all small, private huts that each have a front porch that faces the water. Some have outside showers. Each hut has its own bathroom, lock box, small fridge and coffee/tea maker. (Oh, and a fan!) Wifi is available for a fee, but it's fast and reliable. ($5 Fijian for 30 mins, $30 Fijian for 24 hours.) It's only a $3 cab ride into town, but it's also a doable walk.
There is a bar and restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner (it's cheaper for lunch in town) - if you're going to have dinner you must tell them ahead of time so they can prepare.
You'll be awoken by the voices of tropical birds, and maybe a far off rooster in town.
