The Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. It is an iconic and much photographed structure, shaped like the sails of a ship. The hotel is unofficially billed at a remarkable 7 stars, although critics are forever squabbling over whether these are merited or not. The service and amenities are all top-notch.
